Cake Monster

April 7, 2014 by branchingfig

It was my birthday last week. And since then, I’ve had cake on the brain.

Giant Pineapple Cake

I love birthdays. My birthday, other people’s birthdays, doesn’t matter. Is there a better excuse to throw parties, have intimate dinners, and spoil yourself and the people you care about? Nope.

My birthday is grouped within weeks of my sister’s, mom’s, cousin’s, sister-in-law’s, and one of my best friend’s birthdays.. and not long after that come my dad’s and husband’s birthdays.. So in summary: spring is fully loaded and chock full of birthdays.

And with birthdays, comes cake.  Lots and lots of cake.

Eating cake, making cake, decorating cake… just thinking about it.. the fat kid and ex-pastry chef inside of me start doing this:

I was going through the album of cakes I’ve designed and decorated over the past few years, and realized I haven’t made a specialty cake in about a year. After 2 years of living and breathing cakes almost every day, it kind of blew my mind..

…and made me realize how much I miss it.

I haven’t had the chance to make many cakes lately (or write many blog articles!) as work has been busy busy. But my “new year” resolution is to make time for myself, my passions, and my favorite people – no matter how crazy things get. So here’s to a great new year and age!

Talk to you soon :)

Karen, those cakes are amazing!! You can’t let all that talent go untapped. I’ll let you know when my girl’s birthdays are coming up. You’re welcome. ;)

Thanks Jenn :) I’d love to actually be able to make it up to the girls’ birthdays one of these days – and to come bearing cake! Judging from the party on Saturday, their birthdays are quite the event!
